Wishes he were braver – and can’t see how brave he really is

Would do anything for Elizabeth – even if it means letting her go.

Is a virgin

Has nightmares about drowning

Has scars from where the drunken blacksmith who brought him up beat him – but would never mention it

Wishes that he deserves Elizabeth – but believes he doesn’t

Is quick to judge but not inflexible

Is only aware of class where Elizabeth is concerned

Secretly wishes he were more like Jack

Taught himself to read and write, and is both fiercely ashamed of his lack of education while actually being quite educated

Is stubborn

Carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, and refuses to see that other people will help if you let them

Worries about being good enough

Will always Do The Right Thing – even if it breaks him
